Here's the circuit that I currently use.

The thing is connected to a 9 pin serial port.
| DCD | PIN 1

| GND | PIN 5

The 78L05 and the SFH5110 are shown from above.
The 78L05 has a semi-round transistor like housing.
There are flat 7805 with a metal plate at the back and
I've heard that (Assuming that the metal plate where the
round side of the 78L05 is.) their pinout is reverse.

For me the SFH5110-38 works much better than the
SFH5110-36. But that may be different for you and
your remotes.
